Today I am half way to Santiago de Compostela.

| Looking back to Baño |
I spent a lot of time relaxing and dozing in my bunk yesterday afternoon although I did manage to get myself up to share the evening with Marion, a German who teaches Spanish, and Russ, an Australian, with whom I shared my albergue room. Despite our lack of a common tongue - Marion spoke no English, Russ nothing but - we spent an enjoyable evening together laughing and swapping stories. Such is the way of the Camino.

| Milestone |
Today I wanted to rest my body so it was a late start and a short seven miles to La Calzada de Bejar. But what a lovely seven miles. The sound of birds and a fast flowing stream were the only noises on a peaceful walk through woods in a valley. Everything in this region seems greener and lusher than further south, it was like a summer's day in some lost part of the Brecon Breacons. And La Calzada de Bejar has proved to be a nice place to stop even though there is hardly anything here; it is a tiny one street village clearly of some antiquity with gnarled old wooden beams and balconies, and stone and mud walls. Nothing special, but it carries its age with pride and the comfortable albergue has a small garden with views down the valley and of the surrounding hills. It has been a nice place to while away an afternoon.
