Day 20 - Cáceres

Today Elke caught me up and with her I continued my exploration of this beautiful city, getting lost in its streets, visiting the cathedral and the museum, with the city's old cistern underneath, and then enjoying a tapas lunch.
We also went to one of the two convents in the old town where the Nuns make biscuits to sell but unfortunately they never came to the window when I rang the bell. Later I enjoyed a glass of local wine while sitting quietly reading in a bar away from the afternoon heat. It was a relaxing and enjoyable day.

I am now packed and ready to start walking again tomorrow towards Salamanca, the next big city some seven days away. The first day is a long and isolated stretch and I am considering sleeping out again. We will see what the day brings.

I am still in the afterglow of that which my journey has given and, just as five years ago, I am struck by how this is not just a long walk....
