In Spain

It is just after 9.30pm and the Saturday night sounds of old town Seville are drifting through the window of my small room. From seeing my tired, drawn face in the mirror at five o'clock on an overcast - almost rainy - and not-quite-light English morning to the sultry warmth of this Andalucían evening has been a long and fractured journey of coach and plane and metro and train. By rights I should be heading out to make the most of this city but it has been a tiring day. Rest rather than overflowing bars and restaurants in the narrow, bustling streets below seems the more attractive option and I do have two more nights here before heading to Cadiz on the south coast and the start of my walk, so there is plenty of time to enjoy Seville's hospitality and prepare myself for the weeks to come.

I am still in the afterglow of that which my journey has given and, just as five years ago, I am struck by how this is not just a long walk....
